My apologies for not posting this entry sooner - I was extremely busy last night and this morning.
What we did
Before class, a few of us watched an episode of "The Philanthropist" to help a graduate student with her research project. The episode was about a British-accented billionaire who traveled to Kosovo to build a mining facility, only to be... attacked by terrorists! How dramatic. He also handed out money to everyone he came across because -- as we all know -- money solves all of the world's problems. Even ethnic strife that's been around for centuries.
We had a news quiz at the beginning of class. Standard fare, there.
Those who did not present their broadcasts on Monday did so on Thursday. Presenters were rewarded with snackfood for pronouncing Eyjafjallajokull correctly. Oh, those Icelanders...
We were going to start writing our broadcast film reviews in class, but the presentations ran a little long. So Professor Lawrence handed us an assignment sheet, which explained what we have to do for Monday's class.
What to do
For homework, we need to write a broadcast film review. The review should be 1 minute, 30 seconds in length (about 23 lines). It should include:
-The title, the actors, the director
-A quick plot summary
-Your opinion of the film (back your opinions up with examples from the film)
Avoid phrases like "In my opinion" or "I think." We already know it is your opinion - you're reviewing it.
The structure should be: Lead (is it worth anyone's time), the story/ plot, what's good, what's bad, a summary, or conclusion.
Also: Read Stovall Chapter 7: Writing for the Web, and review grammar. We will be playing a Jeopardy-like grammar review game next class.

Jordan: Thanks so much. Good blog writing -- short, snappy and funny! Today we will talk about blog writing even though we have been doing it all semester. Is it something you need to be taught -- good question. Writing for the web can be tricky, however. People will click away in a second, and you have lost your audience. Also, thanks for providing the summary of what to include in a film review. And thanks to all who helped Katie with her research project. See you this afternoon!
