-Datelines always tell location in bold, if the location isn't listed the story is local
-The best source for reporters is personal observation
-When an "official" is quoted in a story it's an anonymous source, usually a general news rule is that you have at least 2 credible sources
-Don't repeat information or show bias in your report

We then focused on interviewing. When interviewing you should always clarify if the person you are interviewing is speaking on the record (may be quoted directly), off the record (may not be quoted at all) or on background (information may be used but you cannot use their name). Make sure to try and talk to the highest standing person so that you will be more likely to get them on the record and therefore be more credible. Also keep in mind that you cannot record an interview without a person's consent, and you should still take notes while recording, ie mark times when important things are said so you can get to them easily when listening to the recording. Make sure to ask open ended questions to get more than just a Yes or No question, and have an outline of how you want the interview to go to keep on track.Also, the last two things you should do before you end an interview are: 1) ask if you can call the person with any questions and, 2) get a business card (it has the correct spelling of their name and other contact info)
